The government is set to announce plans to reform the planning system in an attempt to ease the path to new homes delivery.
The plans, which are part of a 90 page document aimed at improving UK productivity, include automatic planning permission on “suitable” brownfield sites in the new government Housing Zones.
The government also wants to intervene to release land if local authorities have not drawn up local plans for housing delivery.
Major infrastructure projects that include housing provision will be fast-tracked under the proposals.
The drive to increase new home supply comes from the Treasury and chancellor George Osborne who said that Britain had been “incapable of building enough homes”.
